Share-Net Ethiopia organized the Media community of practice on November 11, 2021 (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia). The meeting brought journalists and members of the COP from different mainstream media outlets, online news media, blogs as well as social media platforms.
By organizing a community practice meeting, Share-Net Ethiopia aimed at cultivating the interest and building the capacity of the media in evidence-based reporting of sexual and reproductive health issues in Ethiopia. Members of the COP reiterated about moving beyond conventional ways of communicating SRHR issues through varying approaches that sought to inspire the community, build awareness on SRHR issues, and strengthen the capacity of journalists for promotion and SRHR knowledge translation.
Members of CoP also addressed enhancing journalists’ interest in reporting on sexual and reproductive health issues through training and grants for SRHR media works, building the capacity of journalists to report reproductive health research links with program practitioners and researchers for evidence-based communication. The media can reach and influence target audiences including policymakers, program implementers, key stakeholders, and the public. Share-Net Ethiopia will continue its effort to increase and strengthen the engagement of the COP and media through different approaches, nuanced in its successes, and provide a platform to reach out to the masses on topics of SRHR.
